1000 Teddies Project World Tour

Fresh off his stops at Hamburg and Vienna, Philip Jordan brings “1000 Teddies Project World Tour” to Planet Rooth Studios in San Diego. Originally hailing from Utrecht, Germany, Jordan created his unique installation with a thousand canvases starring a single teddy bear.

Jordan weaves childhood whimsy into his imagery, but do not let the innocent nature of the teddy bears fool you. Jordan strives to create an inimitable, eye-opening experience for visitors that places the spotlight on them - not the art.

“The roles are exchanged in a frisky way, packed in the art. It’s not about the visitor checking out the exhibition but the exhibition staring at the visitor. Philip Jordan wants to form a situation of self-reflection by letting the teddies’ eyes become a mirror of the visitor himself,” according to his Web site.

Jordan began his career as a graffiti artist, but quickly moved into graphic design and illustration. During this time, he experimented with youthful themes, eventually becoming recognizable by his teddy bear pieces. Following San Diego, Jordan will continue showcasing his installation in various international galleries.

Guests of all ages can enjoy the exhibit being held at Planet Rooth Studios in North Park from April 9-30. Admission is free; however, all proceeds from the exhibit will go to benefit the new Children’s Museum.

While you’re there, though, remember to be on your best behavior. The teddies are watching you.
